Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department

About

We offer year-round park and recreation programs for children, adults and people with disabilities. Both specialty and general camps are held after school and during spring, summer and winter school breaks. After-school activities are focused on fitness, nutrition and wellness, and developing an appreciation of nature, science and the cultural arts. Guided by the Parks Open Space Master Plan – a Board of County Commission unanimously approved plan – we build memorable experiences and communities through well-designed parks and open spaces that are efficient, accessible, engaging and aesthetically pleasing. The Parks Open Space Master Plan is a 50-year vision that for creating great parks, public spaces, natural and cultural areas, streets, greenways, blueways, and trails using the guiding principles of equity, seamlessness, sustainability, access, multiple benefits and beauty.

Commitment

Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces is committed to creating a system of parks and programs that are inclusive to everyone so that everyone regardless of ability may experience and enjoy the benefits and beauty of parks. We are developing an inclusion team that will be led by an inclusion manager, who will follow the inclusion policy and manual to ensure that all programs are accessible and accommodating to people with varying disabilities. Programs will be created using input from members of the community with disabilities or who work with people with disabilities. Programs will be evaluated based on feedback from program participants as their family members/representatives. Data will be collected to indicate how the program is performing and to determine the level of improvement in the overall health and well-being for those in Miami-Dade County with disabilities.
